520-621-7788

My piece of the puzzle:

Celeste is honored to be the first Graduate Assistant in the Office of Instruction and Assessment. She will be assisting with faculty development support services such as workshops, mini-courses, consultations, course reviews, and class observations and learning outcomes assessment shadowing. She will be providing support for the teaching development and assessment of courses in the Certificate of College Teaching, as well as the development of instructional materials to support evidence-based teaching practice.

Background & Education:

Celeste Atkins is a dedicated educator with a passion for sociology. She has taught at all levels including special education and elementary, as well as college. Celeste earned her Bachelor’s degree in sociology with high honors from CSU San Bernardino. She earned her Master’s degree in sociology from USC, and in fall of 2017 will begin a doctorate program in higher education at U of A. Celeste has been sociology faculty at Cochise College since the fall of 2011 and was promoted to department chair shortly thereafter. Celeste teaches a variety of sociology classes, including Intro, Race, Gender, and Human Sexuality. She teaches in all formats including face-to-face, hybrid, Cochise Connect, and online. She has also taught reverse credit courses for high school students. As department chair, she mentors new and adjunct faculty and provides workshops on issues such as classroom management. Celeste’s proudest accomplishment thus far is co-writing the new SBS degree which offers students the chance to “dip their toe” in various aspects of social and behavioral sciences before choosing an area of focus.
