My piece of the puzzle:
As an Assistant Professor of Practice with the Office of Instruction and Assessment, Phyllis supports faculty and future faculty in the successful integration of pedagogy with instructional technology on behalf of student learning.

Current activities include:

  • individual consultation with instructors in the design and development of hybrid, online, and face to face teaching
  • development and facilitation of fully online professional development offerings (e.g., mini-courses and self-paced tutorials),
  • development and facilitation of workshops for faculty and graduate students
  • assist instructors with using technologies such as D2L, Panopto,  Adobe Connect, VoiceThread
  • Catalyst Grant reviewer for the Innovative Learning Project - UITS
  • assist instructors with exploring ways to promote student learning using digital technologies

Background & Education:
With a B.S. in Rehabilitation and an M.Ed. in Special Education, Phyllis began teaching children with severe and multiple disabilities in 1985. Always with a passion for the ways that technology can enhance lives, she has been involved in the field of assistive technology and augmentative communication including the development of iOS apps. She is an adjunct instructor in the College of Education in the area of severe and multiple disabilities and was instrumental in the development of a UA program, Project FOCUS, designed to support students with intellectual disabilities in higher education.  Other professional contributions in higher education have included the design and delivery of trainings and workshops on the use of mobile technology, emerging technology, assistive technology, Web 2.0 tools and social media.  Still an active member, Phyllis was selected as an Apple Distinguished Educator in 2011 and continues to network and collaborate with other professionals, worldwide, who share her passion for the integration of technology in education.
