My piece of the puzzle:
Chelsea’s approach to technology, instruction, and learning is highly informed by learning objectives and course design. She prioritizes learning about instructors’ and students’ goals for learning and teaching and collaborates with them to find solutions and technologies that will best align with these goals. To do this, Chelsea pulls from her 10+ years of experience as an instructor and administrator in higher education.
Background & Education:
Chelsea earned a Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching and an M.A. in German Studies from the University of Arizona. She is an experienced instructor of German as a foreign language and applied linguistics. Her research has been published in scholarly journals (Teaching German, Journal of Second Language Acquisition and Teaching) and centers around the use of authentic texts and multiliteracies pedagogy in the second language classroom, the role of technology in supporting interaction, and graduate student professional development. She is also a contributor to open educational resource projects funded by Title VI Language Resource Centers, for which she designs original teaching materials. After finishing the Ph.D., Chelsea left Tucson briefly to serve as the Assistant Director of the Center for Language Studies and Lecturer in Language Studies at Brown University, where she provided professional development for language faculty and graduate students related to instructional design and technology for language teaching. She is quite happy to be back in the desert, to the heat, and at the University of Arizona!
