My piece of the puzzle:
Mascha consults with instructors on a one-on-one basis, including classroom observations and focus groups, and occasionally facilitates faculty learning communities. She also provides professional development through online resources (mini-primers), tutorials, and mini-courses, as well as hybrid and in-person workshops, class visits, and orientation sessions.
Mascha particularly focuses on course (re-)design, syllabus writing, using D2L and IT tools to enhance pedagogical strategies, GTA training, flipped learning, active and collaborative learning, inclusive excellence, universal design, and intercultural competence.
As the Graduate Coordinator of the Certificate in College Teaching program, Mascha advises students and assists with application and program completion processes. She teaches the courses IA 597d Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in College Teaching, IA 697a Learner-Centered Teaching, IA 694a Instructional Practicum, and IA 699 Independent Study.
Background & Activities:
Mascha has studied and taught at universities in Germany and the U.S. Her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees focus on Indigenous Studies. Specifically, she studied how different cultural paradigms are and could be communicated in the environmental justice discourse. She is an alumna of the Certificate in College Teaching program. Mascha has also been active in inclusive leadership programs, serving as HSI Fellow in 2018-19 and as mentor in the Inclusive Leadership Cohort Certificate for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 cohorts, as well as serving as the Scholarship and Professional Development Resources Coordinator of the Diversity Committee in the POD Network, the largest association of educational developers in North America.
