What:  Content: What to Expect in Spring 2014

Description:  In early January the D2L system will be patched to address a number of bugs and usability issues in the system.  As a result of these patches, there will be some differences in how different features are accessed in the Content tool. The D2L Support Team will present the fixes and enhanced functionality that will improve instructor and student experiences.

What:  Customizing your D2L Course Homepage

Description: This workshop will provide an overview of how to use the Homepages and Widgets tools to build a custom course homepage.  This session will also cover best practices for creating homepages and show samples of a variety of homepage layout options. To conclude the workshop there will be a discussion that demonstrates how a custom homepage paired with a complementing navigation bar can enable you to approach your D2L site in a variety of different ways. To get the most out of this workshop, it is recommended that you have a D2L course site by the start of this workshop.

This session will focus on the Homepage and Widget tool, but will briefly cover customizing navigation bars. Time permitting, D2L team members will be on hand to answer questions you have specific to your D2L course site.

What:  Introduction to D2L Quizzes

Description:  This workshop will present the basics of the question library in D2L’s quiz tool and demonstrate how to build questions in the library, create a quiz and then import questions into the a quiz.   Time permitting, the D2L Support Team will field any questions regarding the quiz tool in D2L

What:  Keeping Students Honest: How to reduce cheating in your D2L Course

Description: In this workshop participants will discuss and learn how to reduce the opportunities and desire for students to cheat in an online environment.  Time will be spent examining each of the following:

•         Using Turnitin plagiarism detection in the Dropbox tool

•         Running effective and honest class discussions in the Discussions tool

•         Using randomized questions, randomized answers, pooled questions and page breaks in the Quizzes tool

•         Rethinking the allocation of grades to discourage cheating and encourage collaboration and learning

This session will cover specific tasks in the Dropbox, Discussions, Quizzes and Grades tools. Time permitting, D2L team members will be on hand to answer questions you have specific to your D2L course site.

What: Your D2L Grade Book - Getting Ready for the Start of the Semester

Description: An overview of the gradebook and the advantages of setting it up at the beginning of the semester.  The D2L Support Team will be available after the presentation to assist with any specific questions regarding the gradebook and its set up.  To get the most out of this workshop, participants should have a D2L course site and bring the course syllabus to the workshop.  

This session will only cover the Grades tool.

Description: Wondering how to use and customize the Library Tools tab in D2L your course site?  What is the best mix of library resources for your students?  Come to the hands-on workshop to learn more about Library Tools and how to use it effectively to supplement your research assignments.
