Objective-Based Learning Workshop
When: Tuesday, November 29, 4:00-4:50PM
Where: ILC 136
Facilitator: Garrett Hughes (Ph.D. Candidate, Entomology & Insect Science)
Description: Instructors of accelerated courses, such as the ones offered during the Winter session, face many challenges such as content overload and keeping students engaged throughout longer class periods. Objective-based learning is one method to help overcome these challenges. In this workshop, attendees will learn how to identify effective learning objectives and will gain hands-on experience writing learning objectives for their own courses. Attendees will use these learning objectives to create assessment questions for their courses.
Although the workshop is targeted toward Winter session and Summer session instructors, the principles and practice experience in this workshop are valuable to instructors of any course.
Learning Outcomes: Upon completing the workshop, attendees will be able to :
1. Distinguish teaching objectives from learning objectives
2. Create learning objectives that are clear, and assessable
3. Create assessment questions based off of learning objectives
